#50 Developing Initiatives to Help ISKCON Deity Worship Thrive into the Future
Deity worship is an integral aspect of sadhana bhakti in our ISKCON temples and communities. However, history has shown that the proper understanding, training, and emphasis of deity worship along with hearing and chanting may be lacking resulting in substandard worship and even neglect to the extent that Srila Prabhupada states the deities are no longer seen as sri vigraha, but instead are seen as a burden around the neck—galagraha.
This seminar will unveil some practical initiatives leaders can implement to better achieve proper temple worship standards for Their Lordships so that all our deities in ISKCON are worshiped gorgeously to Srila Prabhupada’s great satisfaction. Thus, Their Lordships will mercifully offer Themselves to Their devotees in full.
Jayananda Dasa is the North American Minister for ISKCON Deity Worship Ministry. He is personally trained by, and serves under, Nrsimha Kavaca Prabhu (Minister of Deity Worship) and Jananivasa Prabhu, ISKCON’s senior-most pujari with over 40 years of service offered to Sri-Sri Radha Madhava. Jayananda travels to Mayapur annually to train students at Mayapur Academy, of which he is also a managing member. Additionally, he performs many functions for ISKCON Deity Worship Ministry worldwide, including editing publications and certifying ISKCON centers for worship of new deities. In North America, he regularly travels to ISKCON temples to serve pujaris and leadership primarily by offering training and guidance.
