#67 75th Anniversary Of Back To Godhead Magazine
In the midst of the Second World War, Srila Prabhupada publishes the first issue of Back to Godhead magazine. We will give a slide presentation of rare photos relevant to Srila Prabhupada’s commentary on these events. This is an historical look at the insights and determination of His Divine Grace addressing the English-speaking world for the first time. Learn the origin of the words “Back to Godhead”. From there we see the evolution of the magazine up to 1960 when Srila Prabhupada began to concentrate his energies on publication of the Srimad-Bhagavatam.
In 1966 after the registration of ISKCON, Srila Prabhupada engages his fledgling disciples to renew publication of the magazine. By the time of his passing in 1977, the devotees were publishing and distributing one million magazines per month. With the rise of book distribution, focus on the magazine diminished but a stalwart group of devotees were determined to maintain the tradition and have continued to publish a magazine of the highest standards both spiritually and materially.
Today Back to Godhead is ISKCON’s premier congregational magazine. It serves as a bridge to your members and donors and brings them to the realization that they are part of a worldwide family of devotees.
